Early Life and Childhood

Shelby Chong was born on February 1, 1948 in Los Angeles, California, USA. Her actual name is Shelby Fiddis.

As she grew up in Hollywood and had an early interest in acting as a result. She relocated to Canada for high school, though, and attended Gladstone Secondary School in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she graduated in 1966.

Moreover, she has been interested in becoming an actor since she was little because she was born in Hollywood and surrounded by the American entertainment industry. 

But when she got older, she began performing stand-up comedy and did so in various Los Angeles clubs and pubs.

Thomas Bing Kin Chong was born on May 24, 1938, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Tommy is the son of Stanley Chong, a Chinese truck driver who worked in Canada, and Lorna Jean, a waitress of Scottish-Irish descent.

He was also a troublesome kid who dropped out of high school at age 16. He began playing the guitar at the time, and as he grew older, he began performing with bands.

Later on, he became a star in the late 1970s and early 1980s as a member of the comedic team “Cheech and Chong” with Cheech Marin. The two performed on various comedy albums, four of which were nominated for Grammy Awards for Best Comedy Album, while also appearing in numerous films and touring the US.

Tommy received his first cancer diagnosis of prostate cancer in 2012, but after consuming hemp oil, he claimed to be cancer-free. He was nonetheless given a colon cancer diagnosis in 2015, but he has now been able to fight that dreadful illness.

Children

Their first child, a son named Paris Chong, was born in 1974, and they got married the following year. In 1981, the couple gave birth to Gilbran, their second child, and Precious Chong, their only daughter, five years later.

After that, this couple adopted Marcus Wyatt, whose real father was Martin Wyatt, before having their second child. 

Tommy also has two daughters, Robbi and Rae Dawn, from his first marriage with Maxine Sneed.

When Marcus reached eighteen, he adopted his adoptive family’s surname along with that of his siblings.

Since she was a young girl, Shelby has been drawn to comedy and performing. She started doing stand-up comedy as an adult at neighborhood bars and clubs. 

When she married Tommy Chong, an actor, and comedian who was a member of the hugely popular comedy duo “Cheech & Chong,” her ambitions of becoming an actress came true.

Comedian On the big screen and during live stage performances, Shelby Chong is regarded as Tommy Chong’s favorite co-star. She made her acting debut in the 1980 comedy “Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie,” the second full-length film produced by the well-known comedy team. 

Additionally, Shelby appeared in a minor role in the film “Beautiful.” Although the movie received favorable reviews from reviewers, it did not do well at the box office. 

She is remembered by fans for her roles as the seductive “French Fifi” in Things Are Tough All Over (1982), the “Princess” in Cheech & Chong’s The Corsican Brothers (1984), and the blond bodybuilder who made Cheech cry in Nice Dreams (1985).

In several Cheech & Chong films, she is listed as an associate producer. Shelby later made appearances in several additional theatrical productions, television shows, and motion pictures, such as Tripwire (1989), The Spirit of ’76 (1990), Far Out Man (1990), and “General Hospital.” 

She has been on The Howard Stern Show, Comedy Central, and HBO. She debuted on the comedy scene in 1996 as the show opener for Chong’s global tour and has been on the road ever since. 

Shelby and Tommy’s partnership

The partnership between “Tommy Chong & Shelby” was formed in January 2000 after it was officially announced that Tommy Chong had replaced Cheech with a new comedy sidekick.

She also actively supports the “legalize marijuana” movement, which has been going on for decades in the US.

She began performing as the opening act for Cheech & Chong in their national and international concerts after the duo’s reunion in 2002. Shelby was the duo’s opening act in 2008 when they went on a cross-country tour.

With all of the tickets selling out, the tour was a success. She has been a cast member of the comedy series “Just for Laughs” since 2010.
